Meet the gardeners and their garden

This charming, small garden packs a powerful aromatic punch, especially on a warm day when the air is filled with the scents of herbs such as lemon balm, Vietnamese mint, thyme and lemon myrtle trees.  Greg has renounced all lawns in most of his back garden, opting instead for multiple vegetable and growing beds, edged by low maintenance paving.  The diversity of plants provides a colourful palette, perhaps reflecting Greg’s creative flair as a photographer.

Come to see, learn and be inspired!

  • Ask Greg about his espaliered fruit trees - it is not clear whether this ancient pear specimen is holding up the timber fence or vice versa!

  • This garden is very much a tiny haven for wildlife, whether that be frogs and fish in the ponds, the occasional blue tongue lizard, or small native birds that enjoy the protection offered by some of the prickly, flowering native plants.  Of course, parrots and other birds are quick to share the fruits of this garden.

  • Greg has a keen interest in native edibles and his garden includes finger limes, Davidson plums, Fraser Island apples, midyim berries and many Australian native versions of both herbs (oregano, thyme, parsley) and vegetables (Warrigal greens).

  • Ask Greg about how he preserves his garden produce including dehydrating herbs and some fruits.  Greg enjoys growing plants that provide zest and spiciness for his kitchen including wasabi and curry bush.

  • Fruit trees and berries include: figs, tamarillo, bananas, pears, lemon & lime, olives, oranges, native cherry, redcurrant, blackcurrant, goji berries, strawberries and raspberries.
