Meet the gardeners and their garden

Entering this garden is a bit like Alice going on a magical mystery adventure in Wonderland, with a surprise around every corner!  There is a veritable cornucopia of art, with colourful mosaics handmade by Judy, a piano in its own outside nook, and metal bedframes planted as vegetable beds.  Judy loves repurposing unusual containers for growing plants and she also loves the colour green.  Her charming cottage and outdoor furniture have all been painted green and it’s hard to tell where the home stops and the garden starts.

Come to see, learn and be inspired!

• Judy has used potted containers for herbs, strawberries and some other plants which would otherwise take over in the garden.  Leafy greens are planted in raised vegetable beds surrounded by metal bed frames.

• Pretty ornamentals including bulbs are used for underplanting around the fruit trees.  

• Trellises and fences are also used for ‘vertical gardening’, with berries and passionfruits taking advantage of sunny spots in the garden.

• Fruits and berries include avocado, blood plums, lemons, nectarines, feijoa, oranges, quince, weeping apple, tamarillo, thornless blackberries, strawberries, raspberries and blueberries.

• Challenges in this garden include pests such as bush rats and possums, with no easy solutions!  To protect the health of her plants, Judy focuses on building healthy soil each year with the addition of new layers of horse poo. 

 

Parking and accessibility

Parking in Halford and adjacent streets.  The back garden is flat and grassed, but there are some narrow pathways and uneven edges in the side garden.
